What Is Dental Anxiety?
Being scared of the dentist is often treated as a joke. But it’s no laughing matter if you experience high unease about visiting the dentist.
Dental anxiety can make you nervous or uncomfortable about coming to see me, or it can make you very frightened. It may even mean you avoid dental appointments altogether. However, if you experience dental anxiety, you are not the only one.
A phobia may mean you’ve not visited the dentist for many years. If your oral health isn’t at its best, this can add feelings of embarrassment along with anxiety, discomfort, and worsening of your oral health.
Let’s Take the Time to Talk
Although dental phobia affects a large proportion of the population, we won’t make assumptions about how it affects you. Everyone’s experience with dental anxieties is different, and you may have specific fears. We’re here to listen and support you without judgment.
It’s often worth identifying triggers. By understanding what makes you anxious, we can adapt your treatment plan to accommodate your needs.
Dentistry at Your Pace
I want you to feel comfortable during your time at NewDental. To help, we’ll take things at your pace. We can also discuss strategies to help you get ahead of any treatments. This could include:
- Distractions like listening to music or an audiobook
- Having a close friend or family member with you for support
- Using deep breathing and grounding techniques
